Sometimes, the old ways are better…

As in some of the old fashioned mill ground products from Weisenberger Mill.

My sister came into town and we had to go shooting for a bit in the countryside of the Bluegrass. It had been a while since I had ventured out into Scott County, so we headed that way just looking for anything that captured our eye. We pulled off the side of the road at Weisenberger Mill and started shooting around the mill and the South Elkhorn Creek.

This mill has been in the Weisenberger family since 1865 and they produce some great milled products. I particularly like one thing they make that is such a southern tradition… spoon bread.

This mill has been photographed over and over again, and it’s not uncommon to see several folks on a nice autumn day snapping away at the mill, the spillway, or, like me, the pool above the spillway.   This is a photogenic spot anytime of the year, but special in the fall.

Next time you are out Leestown Road heading to or from Lexington or Frankfort, take a brief detour, buy some great products, and capture a moment or two.
